Best AI Coding Plans (2026): All 84 Compared, Ranked by Workload

Which AI coding plan is best, and which is cheapest? All 84 coding plans from Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, OpenCode, Z.ai and more, compared by price and allowance, then ranked for four workloads.

Best AI Coding Plans: OpenAI, Claude, GitHub Copilot, Gemini, Replit and Warp logos above four workload cards (Editor, Terminal, Chat, Frontier-only), each with three ranked plan bars, and “4 workloads · top 3 each · prices checked against vendor pages.”

There is no single best coding plan—there is the best plan for how you code. Where the AI runs (editor, terminal, or chat), which models you refuse to work without, and how heavy your weeks are can change the answer completely, and the price with it by a factor of twenty.

So we ranked the coding track four ways. Each workload below states its assumptions first, then the top three plans for those assumptions—computed at build time by the same ranking engine that powers the Best AI Subscription Finder, from a 224-plan catalog with prices checked against vendor pages. No quiz here, no account, and nothing hand-picked.

How This Ranking Works

Computed, Not Chosen

Every pick on this page is the output of the same tested ranking engine the interactive finder runs, evaluated against the fixed answer set printed above each workload. When the catalog or the engine changes, this page changes with it—nobody edits a rank by hand, and no vendor pays for placement.

Volume Fit Counts Most—and It Is Model-Aware

A coding plan is only as good as the allowance you actually get on the models you actually run. Vendors meter by model, not by plan, so each plan's published numbers are mapped against the workload's model class and volume before price efficiency, editor and terminal support, and the rest of the fit components are scored.

Only Plans You Can Actually Buy

Every listed plan carries a working vendor link and a price checked against the vendor's own page on the catalog date above. Region-locked deals you cannot sign up for from outside their region are excluded rather than footnoted, and where a plan's overage terms are unpublished, the ranking says so on the card instead of guessing.

Coding Plan or API: Which Is Cheaper?

A coding plan is a fixed monthly price for a capped allowance. The API bills every token with no ceiling. If you'd burn through most of a plan's allowance anyway, the plan wins, often by a lot. If you code a few hours a month, pay-as-you-go can come in under even a $10 plan. This page ranks plans only, because a fixed price is the one bill that can't surprise you.

Treat the Numbers as a Starting Point

AI vendors re-meter often—allowances, model rosters and prices move between revisions of this catalog. The ranking is honest about the snapshot it was computed from (2026-10-24); confirm the current terms at checkout.
